Chugach National Forest offers Christmas tree cutting
The Chugach National Forest may be the perfect place to find the family Christmas tree free of charge, but the following guidelines apply:
One tree per family; topping trees is prohibited; all cutting must be 450 feet from roads, trails, trail heads, campgrounds or bodies of water; stumps must be cut low to the ground and all debris removed from roads and trails; other trees must remain within 12 to 15 feet of the cut tree; all areas of the national forest are open except Portage Valley, Turnagain Pass, Moose Pass and Cooper Landing.
The open area starts at Mile 65.5 of the Sterling Highway near the Bertha Creek Campground.

Shooting sports leadership training Friday
Orientation and instruction on leadership training for 4-H shooting sports in rifles will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Cooperative Extension Office and on Saturday and possibly Sunday at the Kenai National Guard Armory. Participants must be over 21.

Skijoring clinic Sunday
The Kenai Peninsula Ski-Jor Association will hold a skijoring clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Kenai Middle School. The clinic will focus on required equipment and tips on how to get your dogs to pull you. The second hour will be spent on practicing with dogs. If there is any snow, the group will practice at the Kenai Golf Course.

New group organizing to make scrapbooks
The Soldotna Memory Keepers Club, a new organization, will focus on preserving the past, enriching the present and inspiring hope for the future. Interested people should bring scrapbooks and supplies and be ready to work with no distractions.
The group will meet the second Wednesday of each month beginning Dec. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. The meeting will be at the Soldotna United Methodist Church at 158 S. Binkley Ave. in Soldotna.

WIC booth at Carrs on Friday
The Women, Infant, Children, or WIC, Program will have a promotional booth at Carrs Quality Center in Kenai from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday.
The group will be giving away pens, magnets, crayons and cookies made from WIC eligible food, and handing out informational fliers about its program and nutrition education. The WIC Program provides vouchers for healthy foods to women with infants and children.
