ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Napakiak man died after he was struck by a pickup truck on a village airport road, Alaska State Troopers said Friday.
Troopers said Paul Parka Sr., 59, was walking along the airport frontage road when a 1992 Chevrolet pickup driven by David Andrew crossed over the centerline shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday. The truck hit Parka, who died at the scene, troopers said.
A village public safety officer detained Andrew, 36, until troopers from Bethel arrived.
Andrew, of Napakiak, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and driving while intoxicated, troopers said. He was being held at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel.
