Happy holidays from festive Kasilof.
Like many, for me, the sight of snow is a welcome relief. I hope it's a trend.
Calling all Kasilof student artists in grades one through six: This is a fine opportunity to showcase your talent. Once again, it is time for the Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race poster contest. Only one entry per student is allowed on 8 1/2-by-11-inch paper; no tracing, computer graphics or copies are permitted. Crayon, marker and colored pencil drawings should depict the musher and dog team's involvement in the T-200, friendly competition and the humane care of sled dogs.
Entrants are asked not to fold entries and to be sure to put their name, address, city, phone number, teacher's name, grade and school in pencil on the back of their artwork. Entries should be submitted to Jersey Subs in Soldotna by Wednesday.
The winners of the contest will ride in the ceremonial start of the race, and the winning poster will be reproduced on the official poster of the 2005 race.
Kasilof Public Library winter hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. There are new and used books for sale, public Internet access and a new arrival, the novel "Brimstone," by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Also new for kids are fairy tale books on tape. For further library information, call me at 252-1120 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. weekdays.
Coming up Saturday is the monthly broomstick pool tournament at the Decanter Inn. Only provided house broomsticks will be allowed. A nominal entry fee pays first-, second- and third-place prizes. Come in early to register for random raffles, plus appetizers. For more information, call the Decanter Inn at 262-5917.
A belated anniversary greeting to Debbie and Steve Hayes. They were wed 22 years ago last Friday. Two Clam Gulch residents celebrating their anniversary this week are Carl and Jackie Hatten, congratulations.
Birthday greetings to Gina Delgaizo, Harry Miller, Hazel Kitchen, Michelle Martin and Mary Margaret Casey. I hope you all have a holly-jolly week.
