Good morning.

A sweet thought for your week: "Give a little love to a child and you get a great deal back." - John Ruskin

Hungry? Carol Strickland said the Boy Scout Troop will be at the Kenai Safeway store selling popcorn Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until they sell out. This fund-raiser helps send boys to summer camp and it helps fund their activities.

The Rev. Laura Skiba mentions the Noel Tree is a M&M Market in the Nikiski Plaza. This supports the need of the children in our community at Christmas.

The tree has cards with information of what the child's needs are, and all one has to do is purchase the items and return to the store with the information card. For more information call 776-8732.

Bob Harrison said all cribbage players and watchers should meet Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Kenai Merit Inn.

Jody Pritchard, Nikiski Senior Citizens Center care coordinator, wants senior residents to know the center provides many services for them, including care coordination, chore and homemaker services, outreach, in-home services, visitation, information and referral, loan closet, collaborative services and assistance with paperwork.

If you have needs or are not sure where to obtain any assistance, stop by the center and see Jody or call her at 776-7568.

The Kenai Peninsula Reading Council is looking for Nikiski groups interested in assisting with their third annual Peninsula Reading Carnival on Jan. 29. Those who are should contact Virginia Morgan at 283-9374 or e-mail her at tommyginny@gci.net to reserve booth space, or if you're interested in performing on the main stage, contact Matt Faris at 260-5411 or e-mail him at mfaris@kpbsd.k12.ak.us.

Welcome, Elena Diaz, who joined the Nikiski Middle-Senior High School in the maintenance department.

I would like to thank the ladies at the Valley City, N.D., library the use of the computer to do the Nikiski column while visiting my daughter, Becky, son-in-law, Lonnie and grandson, Gavin. I will be back in Alaska for next week's column.

A special Wednesday birthday greeting to Valerie Schwenke. Happy birthday, Val. This is the 19th birthday we've been together and we're still young. I'll be home Dec. 20, and we will celebrate. (From Sgt. 1st Class Will Schwenke).

Celebrating a birthday on Thursday are Kelly McCaughey and Abe Porter; Saturday: Spike Hamman, Eula Miller and Sam Meyer; Sunday: Jean Fant; and Monday: Avery Kornstad.

Belated anniversary wishes to Mark and Lois Ann Stynsberg, who celebrated Thursday.

Enjoy the day.
