Oilers Corner

Oilers go Ivy League

Posted: Friday, December 08, 2000

The Oilers have added Trey Hendricks of Harvard University to their 2001 roster.

The 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher is a switch hitter and doubles as a utility player. Hendricks is from Spring, Texas.

Cal Eldred and Dave Magadan have joined Major League Baseball's free agent list. Eldred was a pitcher for the Oilers 1988 team and is a veteran of 10 major league seasons. Magadan, the nephew of Seattle Mariners manager Lou Pinella, played first base for the 1982 Oilers and has played 15 major league seasons with seven teams, most recently with the San Diego Padres.

The latest release of Major League Baseball's 40-man rosters include 13 former Oilers. Chad Green, an outfielder on the Oilers 1994 National Baseball Congress championship team, is the newest addition to the list. Green is a member of the Milwaukee Brewers and ranks fifth in the Oilers record book for stolen bases in both the all-time and single-season categories.

The Oilers Mania Souvenir Store and Pull-Tab Parlor, located on the corner of Cook Ave. and Main Street, is open for holiday gift shopping. For more information on the Oilers and the Alaska Baseball League, call 283-7133.

Oilers Corner is submitted weekly during the offseason by Mike Baxter, baseball operations manager for the Peninsula Oilers Alaska Baseball League team.
