FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The University of Alaska Board of Regents has chosen a new chairman.
Fairbanks regent Brian Rogers was elected by his peers Friday.
Rogers said he hopes to revamp the allocation of time in board meetings to allow more time for regent discussion. He also wants to increase communication among regents between meetings.
Rogers was appointed to the board in 1999, and has served as treasurer for the last two years, according to UA spokesman Bob Miller.
He was a member of the state House from 1979 to 1982 and worked for the university, first as director of budget development and then as vice president for finance, from 1984 to 1995.
The board also elected Elsa Demeksa as vice chairwoman, Frances Rose as secretary and Joseph Usibelli Jr. as treasurer.
