ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has been appointed as the agency's area management biologist for the Anchorage, Resurrection Bay and Prince William Sound sport fisheries.

Matt Miller's new jurisdiction includes the Anchorage bowl and the Seward area, as well as sport fisheries in the Prince William Sound communities of Cordova, Valdez and Whittier.

Miller joined the department in 1989.

He recently was the assistant area management biologist for Prince William Sound sport fisheries. In that role, he helped develop management plans for Prince William Sound shrimp and the Copper River Delta trout special management area.

Miller also has worked in research and management positions with the sport fish and commercial fisheries divisions.
