One man died and another was in critical condition following a head-on collision on Sterling Highway in Sterling Thursday night.
Hassien Sliman, 44, of Soldotna, died of injuries sustained in the accident, and Walter Williams, 43, of Soldotna, was listed in critical condition at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
According to Alaska State Troopers, a 1978 Ford Bronco driven by Sliman was northbound at 8:56 p.m. when it traveled into the southbound lane colliding head-on with a 1997 Dodge van driven by Williams.
Both drivers were transported to Central Peninsula General Hospital where Sliman later died. Williams was then flown to Anchorage for treatment of his injuries.
The highway was closed for about an hour and a half after the collision. Troopers are investigating the cause of the accident.
Sliman's driver's license had been revoked, troopers said.
