Alaska Fairbanks beats up Wayne State

FAIRBANKS -- Alaska Fairbanks broke open a close game with four third-period goals and defeated Wayne State 6-2 Friday in nonconference collegiate hockey action.

Six players scored for the Nanooks (6-7-2).

Felipe Larranaga scored the only goal of the first period to give Alaska Fairbanks the lead.

Wayne State (5-8-0) tied the game 65 seconds into the second period on a goal by Billy Collins.

The Nanooks led 2-1 when Cory Rask took a pass from Doug Auchenberg at the side of the net and scored at 3:08 of the second period.

Corbin Schmidt, Cam Keith and Ryan Campbell's scored in the third period to push the lead to 5-1. Campbell's goal was short-handed.

A breakaway goal by the Warrior's Jon Brink at 17:11 cut the lead to 5-2.

Jared Sylvestre scored a second short-handed goal for Alaska Fairbanks at 18:00.

Nanooks goalie Lance Mayes made 31 saves. David Guerrera stopped 32 shots for Wayne State.

Minnesota-Mankato rips Alaska-Anchorage

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) -- Jason Jensen made 23 saves to lead Minnesota State, Mankato past Alaska-Anchorage 5-1 Friday night.

Five different players scored for the Mavericks (4-5-3, 3-3-2 WCHA). Mankato was 1-of-3 on power play attempts, with Shane Joseph scoring a power play goal at the 4:40 mark of the second period. Alaska-Anchorage was 1-for-7 on the power play.

Curtis Glencross scored the Seawolves' only goal at 18:17 in the third period on assists from Morgan Roach and Ales Parez.

Kevin Reiter made 34 saves for Alaska-Anchorage (1-10-4, 0-8-3) in the loss.

Mankato has won six of its last eight meetings against the Seawolves.

Grant Stevenson extended his scoring streak to nine games with a goal and an assist for the Mavericks.
