Glotfelty completes wildfire training

Kenai resident Heidi Glotfelty recently completed portable pumps and wildfire powersaw training at the New York Wildfire and Incident Management Academy in Upton, N.Y.

Her courses were taught by certified wildland fire and incident command instructors and meet all National Wildfire Coordination Group (NWCG) standards.

Glotfelty currently is a wildland firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service's Green Mountain National Forest.

 

Anika Hocker

Hocker receives national honor

Anika M. Hocker of Soldotna recently was selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars. The honor is given to students who have superior academic achievement and are among the top scholars in the nation.

Membership is by invitation only and includes benefits to members such as scholarships, networking, events and publications.

Hocker is a student at Soldotna High School.

 

Norman Murphy

Weaver takes helm of Choices for Teens Inc.

Homer resident Ken Weaver recently became the executive director of Choices for Teens Inc., a youth services agency for at-risk teens.

Weaver brings his past expertise as city manager for both Bethel and Seldovia, his military experience and skills in city planning and management to the center.

Murphy joins Ribelin Lowell Insurance

Former Florida resident Norman Murphy recently joined Ribelin Lowell Insurance Brokers Inc. in Soldotna.

Murphy will be responsible for property and casualty coverages for commercial accounts on the peninsula.

Seward Ambulance Corps receives award

The Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps recently received the EMS Outstanding Ambulance Service Award 2003. The award was given in recognition of its 50 years of service to the citizens of the Seward area.

The annual award recognizes a ground ambulance or first responder service, which has outstanding success in providing year-round community service and in the gaining support and involvement of the entire community in its service and educational activities, or which has shown heroic performance on a special occasion.
