Students are gathering canned food items for The Salvation Army through Friday. Items donated may be boxed or bagged products that have not exceeded an expiration date.

Elk's Hoop Shoot winners were determined last week. Winners and alternates are: Dylan Webb, Makayla Wong, Naomi Rogers, Dalton Pearson, Jared Duncan, Kailee Skjold, Daniel Koch and Kaitlyn VanMeter. Regional competition is scheduled for Dec. 18 at Soldotna Middle School.

The school thanks the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 10046 for its contribution of $300. The money is designated for needs of the students. The VFW has made donations to the school for many years.

There will be a Christmas program presented by Mr. Audette at 2 p.m. Monday in the gymnasium. This program includes students in grades four through six, as well as the fifth- and sixth-graders in beginning band.

On Tuesday, the school will conduct a safety drill designed to test its shelter-in-place procedures. Parents arriving at school before dismissal may be met by parent volunteers stationed outside the building. They will gain experience on the process of releasing students to a designated adult. For a period of about 30 minutes, all outside doors will be locked and adults in the parking lot will communicate to staff inside the building via two-way radios.
