O'Donnell takes gold medal

Tela O'Donnell, who is originally from Homer and attended high school in Nikiski, won a gold medal at the Henri Deglane Challenge in Nice, France, on Nov. 27.

O'Donnell, who competed in the last Olympics, won at 138.75 pounds in women's freestyle.

O'Donnell won four matches at the tournament, including defeating Nadia Moussaoui of France by decision. Moussaoui placed fifth at the 2002 and 2004 World University Championships.

Kenai's Hall records sack

Travis Hall, who was born and raised in Kenai, had three unassisted tackles, a tackle and a sack in the Atlanta Falcons' 27-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday. Hall now has 13 tackles, six assisted tackles, 1.5 sacks and two passes defended this season. If the playoffs were to start today, the Falcons would be the No. 2 seed in the NFC.
