"My inspiration for this recipe was an old rum ball recipe that I have had for many years. I make cookies for our neighbors and friends for the holidays so I decided to come up with a more modern, low country cookie that is also very easy to make."

Tracey Nadeau, pictured upper left in 2009 with Bluffton Harry & David store sales manager, Lainey Smith, was runner-up this year in the molded, rolled, refrigerator and no-bake cookie category for "Bleu Cheese and Dried Cranberry Cocktail Cookies (upper left) the first ever entry for a savory holiday cookie. Nadeau's "Chocolate Cayenne Cookie Bites" was runner-up in last year's competition in the same category. Audrey Boyn's first place no-bake cookie, made with Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, is pictured lower right, and Caroline Kennedy's "Mocha Pecan Balls," coming in third place, is pictured left.

Audrey Boyn

2 cups vanilla wafers, crushed (about 44 wafers, or 5.6 ounces)

1 cup confectioner's sugar

1/4 cup light corn syrup

1 cup chopped pecans

3/4 cup sweet tea vodka*

Mix all together and form into small balls. Roll balls in additional confectioners' sugar and store in a covered container.

*Kitchen Ade Note: For the purposes of this recipe, I used Firefly brand sweet tea vodka. Makes about 25 to 30 cookies, depending on size of ball.
