Stars drop 3-2 decision to Dimond

The Soldotna hockey team played Dimond, the top-ranked team in the state, close before losing 3-2 Friday in a nonconference game at Ben Boeke Arena in Anchorage.

The Stars were outshot 36-16, but still went into the third period tied with the Lynx at 2-2. Stephen Murphy scored with 8:38 left in the game to secure the victory.

Eric Newby scored both goals for the Stars, while goalie Egan Gleason kept Soldotna in the game by making 33 saves.

Dimond rolled up 31 minutes of penalties in the second period, while Soldotna didn't have any penalties. The Stars were only able to convert one goal during all the power-play time.

The Kardinals couldn't overcome a hat trick by Derek Koehler and a goal and two assists by Danny Koval Friday at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.

West took a 5-0 lead into the third period before the Kardinals got goals from Billy Forrest and Phillip Ischi in the third period.

Palmer 4, Skyview 3

The Moose overcame a 3-2 deficit in the third-period to notch a North Star Conference victory at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena in the Matanuska-Susitna valleys.

Behind two goals from Gabe Fellman, Skyview entered the third period tied 2-2 with Palmer. Lukas Fellman put Skyview up 3-2 with a goal with 14:40 to play, but Travis Thornhill scored at 11:57 and Kent Blaylock notched the game-winner at 5:30 for Palmer.

Gabe Williamson made 29 saves for Skyview, which was outshot 33 to 19.

Colony 15, Skyview 0

Colony routed Skyview in a 15-point blanking Saturday, as the Knights shut down any possibility of seeing Panther points. Colony was led in scoring by Seth Reda, who had four goals and Nate Pokryfki, who added a hat trick. Colony's goal tending duo, Tony Keller and Greg Strohmeyer needed only fend off 17 shots on goal, between them, to keep Skyveiw scoreless.
