New Play Zone gives kids a break from hectic parents

Posted: Tuesday, December 09, 2003

It's that hectic holiday time of year, but then again shopping with little ones eager to buy everything in the store can be hectic anytime of the year, and a couple of hours away from hurried shopping parents great fun for the kids. Enter the "Play Zone."

Now open at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna, the brainstorm of entrepreneur Melody Symington, "It's not a day care, it's a two hour maximum drop off center designed to give moms or dads a break to go somewhere and have some time alone, and at $4.00 an hour with a discount for siblings, it can be less than what you might buy to keep your kids happy when they're along with you," says Symington. Melody is a mother of two herself who loves children and wanted to offer parents a place for their kids where they could be assured their children are at a safe, kid-friendly environment.

The Play Zone is a colorful place filled with just about everything any child would need to be happy for a couple of hours including a large screen TV where they can view their favorite animated videos, "The kids are never bored for a second, they go from one thing to the next. There's a play kitchen, legos, tool sets, tents, stuffed animals and just about everything for kids up to age 12 to enjoy and fun with for a couple of hours," added Melody. The Play Zone has been open for a couple of weeks and is the latest feature at the renovated Peninsula Center Mall that now features the largest Gottshalks store in the Northwest. The Play Zone is open during regular Mall hours, Monday- Friday 10:00am 8:00pm, Saturday 10:00am 7:00pm and Sunday 12:00 to 6:00pm located across from Subway next to the Dollar Store at the Mall.
