Singing Christmas cards offered
The Homer Council on the Arts presents Singing Christmas Cards, which can be purchased and delivered within five miles from downtown Homer on Dec. 20 or 21 and in Anchor Point and Fritz Creek by special arrangement. Victorian carolers for hire
The Kenai Performers are hiring out as Victorian carolers during the holiday season as a fund-raiser. Costumed a cappella quartets or larger groups can be hired to perform at offices, parties, events and elsewhere through Dec. 24. For more information, call Crista Cady-Hippchen at 262-2825.
Art wanted for KPC's Kachemak Bay campus
The University of Alaska Anchorage Facilities and Planning and Construction office is soliciting for artwork concepts for an art instillation that will be part of Kenai Peninsula College's Kachemak Bay campus expansion project. The committee is looking for artwork that reflects the mission of KPC's Kachemak Bay Campus to provide education and enlightenment. Artwork should be easily maintained and not subject to vandalism.

Writers' Night accepting submissions
Area writers are invited to submit work for the eighth annual Central Peninsula Writers' Night. Writers' Night is open to adult and high school writers who live in the central Kenai Peninsula, from Nikiski to Ninilchik, Cooper Landing and all points in between.
The Central Peninsula Writer's Group and Kenai Peninsula College sponsor the event. The submission and postmark deadline is 4 p.m. Jan. 21.
A selection committee will read submissions and select 12 to 16 writers to present their work at the Writers' Night on Feb. 11. The event includes a dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation. All writers who are selected must attend a rehearsal an evening before the presentation from 6 to 8 p.m., date to be announced. Selected writers will be notified by Feb. 4.
All types of fiction, humor, essays, poetry, children's fiction, children's poetry and creative nonfiction will be considered. Selections will be chosen based on the quality of the writing and the need for a well-balanced program, representing several different writing styles. The writing also will be judged on how suitable it is for reading before a live audience. There will be a strict 10-minute time limit, (approximately 1,000 words), so work should be written or edited accordingly. Reading an excerpt of a longer piece is fine within the prescribed time line.
An official submission form must be attached to the front of each submission. The author's name should not appear on the writing sample, only on the submission form. All entries will be "blind judged," without the selection committee knowing the author.
Writers may submit in as many categories as they like, though a submission form must accompany each entry. Submission forms are available at the Kenai Community Library. Entries can be dropped by the Kenai Community Library or mailed to the Central Peninsula Writer's Group, c/o Virginia Walters, 214 Birch St., Kenai, AK 99611.
The Kenai Peninsula College English department may publish selected writers in its magazine Driftwood. Those published will receive a complimentary copy at the time of publication.
