Nikiski volleyball season a success thanks to community

Posted: Thursday, December 09, 2004

The Nikiski High School volleyball team would like to thank everyone in the community for their outstanding support. The support was given in many ways.

First, to everyone who bought raffle tickets at the beginning of the season. This support gives so much back to the program financially. The bonus, some lucky winner will enjoy the beaches of Hawaii. This community has always been great at supporting the local athletic teams. A big thanks goes to Robin Bennett for her help with organizing all of the raffle ticket information.

We would like to thank the Seward Seahawk volleyball team, their coaches and the parents for their outstanding support during the state volleyball tournament. They were there cheering our team on whenever they were not playing, and the Seahawk team made a sign for our team. It was great to have support from our fellow peninsula team.

A final thanks goes out to the Nikiski volleyball parents for all the time they put into helping out the program. There were many parents who volunteered to work in the concessions to help raise funds for the team. Thanks to the following parents: Sherry Gladden, Jane and Jay Griffel, Debbie Womack, Debbie Copeland, Dana Megchelsen, Cindy Heaverley, Ann Hundorf, Erin Thompson, Diana Knolls and Rebecca Jorgesen. We couldn't have done it without their help. We would also like to thank the Bennett family for arranging to have Olympic beach volleyball player Jeff Nygaard come to Alaska and help the volleyball program. This grave a great boost to the young ladies emotionally and physically. Having this caliber of instruction was something that these ladies will never forget.

Thanks again to everyone who helped with the Nikiski volleyball team. Our season would not have been so successful without all of this support.
