Handel's 'Messiah' to be performed

The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra, the Kenai Peninsula Community Chorus and the Homer High School Concert Choir under the direction of Mark Robinson, will combine forces to present a full performance of George Frederick Handel's "Messiah" at 7 p.m. Friday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School and at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Homer High School Mariner Theatre.

Each concert will have a pre-concert lecture 45 minutes before show time.

The concerts will feature Anchorage soloists: Anastasia Jamieson, soprano; Marlene Bateman, mezzo-soprano; Andrew Sweeney, tenor; and Todd Jackson, bass. They will be accompanied by a 220 voice choir and a 45 piece orchestra. Tickets are available at River City Books in Soldotna, Charlottes in Kenai and Etude Music Studio and The Homer Bookstore in Homer.

Admission prices are: general admission, $18; senior citizens, $16; Raven's Club, $15; youth, $10 and family, $52.

During the Homer High School Concert Choir will hold theme basket raffle and bake sale at both Messiah performances in Homer. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or $5 for seven.

College council meeting scheduled

The Kenai Peninsula College Council will be meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in room 158 of the Brockel Building in Soldotna. It is open to the public. For more information or a copy of the agenda, call Sue Evanson at 262-0318.

Band concert, dessert auction scheduled

Kenai Central High School's concert band and drumline and the Kenai Middle School bands will hold a joint concert at 3 p.m. today at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium.

Desserts of all types to be bid on in a silent auction will be held at 2:30 and during intermission. Winners will be able to pick up their dessert at the end of the concert. For more information, call 283-7524.

Gardeners to gather

The Central Peninsula Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road near the Bridge Access Road intersection.

The featured speaker will be Rita Jo Shoultz of Fritz Creek Gardens in Homer.
