Homer girls start by defeating Dimond

The Homer girls opened their season with a huge victory over defending Class 4A state champion Dimond on Friday, edging the Lady Lynx, 51-47.

Reba Temple paced the Mariners with 23 points and Claire Siekaniec added 18 points and five rebounds. Jill Temple also collected 10 boards.

Tara McAdoo recorded 14 points and 15 rebounds in the loss, while Tina Knight added 12 points and six rebounds.

Soldotna boys 54, Heritage Christian 49

The Stars staved off a late rally by the Eagles and held on for a tight victory in the season opener Friday.

Tony Besse scored 14 points and Brad Blossom and Larsen Kohler added eight apiece for SoHi, which was outscored 19-9 in the final period.

Steve Hanks netted 17 points in the loss, while Allen Cassel added nine on three 3-pointers.

Kenai boys 90, Seward 61

The Kardinals jumped out to a 23-point halftime lead and drained 13 3’s in pounding Seward on Saturday.

Nate Saltzgiver nailed six 3-pointers and led Kenai with 23 points, Casey Ellis and Daniel Gustkey chipped in 13 apiece and Nathan Byrd added 11.

Caleb Addelman scored 28 points in defeat and Billy Beck added 16.
