Nikiski Community News

Posted: Monday, December 10, 2007

Good day to all of my Nikiski neighbors.

I have so enjoyed the Christmas lights and yard displays while driving through Nikiski this year.

Don't forget to visit the Noel Tree at M&M Market and consider lending a helping hand during the holiday season.

The breakfast program at Nikiski North Star Elementary School has gone through some changes. Starting Jan. 7, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Nutrition Services will begin serving breakfast to the students before school. The cost for a full breakfast is $1.50 or $.30 for those with reduced lunch. Those students receiving a free lunch will also receive a free breakfast.

The Nikiski Community Council and the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce are holding the seventh annual winter light display in the Nikiski Area. There are two categories: business or family. Nomination forms are available by calling Judene Van Cleave at 776-5551. What a great way to get out there and see all the decorations in our area. Prizes include energy credits from Homer Electric Association and more.

An informative meeting to discuss a Weight Watchers Program will be held at 4 p.m. today at Nikiski North Star Elementary. The Weight Watchers Program will begin at 4 p.m. Jan. 14 at the school. For more information, call Sharon at 262-7534.

A teen night will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the North Peninsula Recreation Center.

A Christmas party will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Nikiski Senior Center. Santa Claus will visit the center from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The scrappy crafters will meet from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Nikiski Senior Center. The format is an open session and participants are urged to bring a project to work on. For more information, call 776-7654.

A site council meeting will be held at 3:45 p.m. Dec. 17 in the Nikiski North Star Elementary School library.

The annual membership meeting for the Nikiski Senior Citizens, Inc. will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Nikiski Senior Center.

The Nikiski Senior Center will not have the weekly game night Dec. 21.
