Have you had a look at Leif Hansen memorial park after dark? It looks like there are lights on every single tree and bush. Thanks for brightening up our winter, whoever is responsible for all that work. I have great admiration for all of you who go to the effort and expense of decorating your houses for the holidays. It just isn't Christmas without all the cheery lights or the ringing of bells, for that matter.

Entering a store this time of year, some may be annoyed by that dinging little bell reminding folks that there are less fortunate people out there. If it makes you feel guilty to walk past that stalwart soul standing in the cold manning The Salvation Army pot, then just drop in a little something when you pass. Green is good, but the change in your pocket adds up, too, when they tally up the good will at the end of the day. 'Tis the season, after all.

The Kenai Elks Lodge is looking for a family to adopt for Christmas. If you would like to suggest a family, submit your request to Mary Macramder at 283-7776. They have some ideas on how to make the holidays happier.

The Peninsula Moose Family Center has its annual angel tree up in the lodge. If you or anyone you know is in need of a food basket or gifts for the kids please turn in a form by Wednesday. They also have a box put of for food donations.

If cribbage is your thing, (and I know of a particular intrepid Wyomingite whose thing it is), you might be interested to know that Cook Inlet Lions are hosting their annual cribbage tournament at 3 p.m. Saturdays at the American Legion Post No. 20. The building is located in the Old Towne area on the corner of Cook and Main Streets. For more information, call Ray Nickelson at 776-5688.

The Kenai Community Library, in keeping with tradition, invites all library cardholders to enter their cards for many holiday drawings Friday through Dec. 23. On Dec. 24, two names will be drawn, one for a youth and one for an adult package. Be sure to look for the entry display when you visit the library.

Also at the library, they are offering help to sign up for a free Web-based e-mail account at a computer workshop to be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Dec. 19. One hour of additional practice will be available after the class, for which registration is necessary. To sign up and for more details, call Cindy Gibson at the library at 283-4378.

Happy birthday to Michele Sparhawk and Lynn Jones today, Dec. 10; Justin Dallas Hansen turns 4 on Dec. 11; Jesse Corning and Tyler Chenault on Dec. 14; and Brittney Lopez celebrates on Dec. 15.

A belated wish goes out to Cody Mishler on Dec. 8.

I'd love to hear about your holiday plans and events. Please feel free to call.
