Chambers set luncheon schedules

Kenai resident becomes Tastefully Simple consultant

Lindsay Cabasa of Kenai has become an independent consultant with Tastefully Simple Inc., a national direct sales company featuring more than 60 easy-to-prepare foods.

Cabasa offers food samples, at-home taste-testing parties and ideas for meals and recipes. Tastefully Simple are open-and-enjoy, or can be prepared by adding only one or two items.

Holiday dresses available at Curtain Call

Curtain Call Consignment Boutique has a dazzling selection of holiday dresses in all sizes. The shop is also promoting a December special: buy one item get one half off of equal or lesser value (designer handbags are excluded).

Curtain call sells new and gently used name brand clothing, shoes, jewelry and handbags for their fashionable consignors in the community. Half of the proceeds benefit the Kenai Performers. Curtain Call is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Curtain Call will be closed for the holidays on Dec. 25 and 26. The shop is located in the Old Town Playhouse behind the Kenai Visitor's Center, on the left side of the Malston's building in Kenai.

Kenai chamber partners with HEA, Unocal Retirees for lighting contest

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Homer Electric Association and the Unocal Retirees for the Annual Kenai Holiday Decorating Contest. Nominations for homes or businesses are due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday and may be submitted to the Kenai Chamber of Commerce by mailing to 402 Overland Ave., Kenai, AK 99611 or faxing to 283-7183. Winners in residential and commercial categories will receive Energy Bucks.

Hammer honored with instructor award

Bob Hammer, of Hammer Enterprise, was recently honored with the 2009 Instructor Excellence Award from the Construction Education Foundation and Alaska Construction Academies. Mike Andrews, Executive Director of Alaska Works Partnership, was on hand at the Alaska State Home Building Association Awards Banquet in Juneau to present Hammer with his award. Hammer was recognized for his support and commitment to teaching Alaska's youth, and for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Kenai Peninsula Construction Academy. Hammer is a member of the Kenai Peninsula Builders Association.

Businesses support food bank

The following businesses will be participating in holiday food drives to benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank:

GCI; Home Depot; IGA Country Foods; King's Treasures (bring in cans of food for a discount); Ninilchik Senior Citizens; Peninsula Health Center (for 25 pounds of food, an individual will receive a complete chiropractic examination and treatment; call 260-4844 for an appointment); Save U More; Sears catalog store; Spenard Builders (Kenai Millwork, Soldotna, K-Beach battle between the branches); Stanley Chrysler (help fill the truck in competition with Stanley Ford); Stanley Ford (help fill the truck in competition with Stanley Chrysler); United Rentals (help the Peninsula Branch beat other Alaska branches).

Donate to the Food Bank's savings account or bring nonperishable items for the barrel at the following locations: AlaskaUSA Credit Union; First National Bank Alaska; KeyBank; Wells Fargo.

Community Playground volunteers brighten city
