'Epic Win' coming for New Year's Eve

"The 2011 Epic Win," New Year's Eve Concert, featuring Manafest ( and Chris Wilson (\chriswilsonrock), takes place Dec. 31, from 8 p.m. to midnight, at Peninsula Grace Youth Center and Auditorium, Mile 19.5 K-Beach Road, Soldotna. Cherish the Light ceremony

Cherish the Light will be held Friday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angels, 225 S. Spruce St., Kenai. This is a candlelight prayer service to celebrate those who have brought light into our lives and to whom we've said goodbye. Please bring a candle to carry and set in a place of honor. Clothes Quarters open weekly

Clolthes Quarters, at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 225 S. Spruce St, Kenai, is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and he first Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Life skills course available

The Soldotna church of the Nazarene will be holding Life Skills International class Learning to Live Learning to Love. The class runs 26 weeks, with a sliding scale fee. Contact the church for more information at 262-4660, or Mary Glaves, facilitator, at 398-6318.

Christmas for Kids on tap

Grace Lutheran Church and School will host "Christmas for Kids," a program to share the real meaning of Christmas, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the church off K-Beach Road, one block down on Ciechanski Road. Kids ages 3 years old to sixth-grade may attend. There will be Bible teaching, singing, arts and crafts, games and cookie decorating. Sterling Pentecostals host Christmas Cantata

The Sterling United Pentecostal Church will present a Christmas Cantata on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship with refreshments and on Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. followed by a dinner. The collection of Christmas music will include presentations by children along with a choir of teens and adults. The church is located on Swanson River Road at Entrada. Everyone is invited to join in rejoicing and worshiping Christ the King.

Apostolic Assembly plans holiday events

Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ Sunday School Department will present the play, "Echoes of Prophecy," Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. This Christmas message will be performed by the children in story and song. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall immediately following the play. Everyone is invited to attend this special service commemorating the birth of Jesus. Transportation can be arranged by calling 262-9693 or 394-8887.

On Sunday, Dec. 19, at 5:30 p.m., the AAJC Choir will present its annual cantata, "The Way He Came." There will be more special music and a Christmas message concluding the service.

In what is an annual tradition, the birth of Jesus will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 7:00 p.m., as a birthday party for Jesus, with special music and the giving of gifts to the work of the Lord.

Clothes ministry ongoing

The Clothes 4 U Ministry offers free clothing to benefit the community. The ministry is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at First Baptist Church Soldotna Mission House at 119 Little Ave. in Soldotna. Clothes 4 U accepts clothing donations only. For more information, call 260-4806.

Catholicism classes available

Classes for anyone interested in the Catholic Church will be held each Wednesday evening at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The classes are held in O'Neill Hall on Redoubt Avenue at 6:30 p.m. each week. Those attending will learn about the teaching of the Church based on the teachings of Jesus Christ to His disciples.

This process is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA. Anyone interested in seeking this way of life may call the Rectory to sign up at 262-4725.

Nikiski Aglow meets

Kids invited to gather

Every first and third Sunday of every month, seventh- through 12th-graders are invited to hang out at the Peninsula Grace Brethren Church youth center from 6 to 8 p.m. to showcase their talent from singing to beatboxing and poetry, or simply to hang out and enjoy a beverage from its coffee shop.

Study, fellowship, worship opportunities

Saint Luke Lutheran Church offers several faith strengthening opportunities during the week. The parish's Wednesday 10:30 a.m. fellowship/study is focusing on Numbers. The group attempts to cover one chapter a session and meets at 48095 Andrews Avenue for approximately one hour.

Wednesday evening activities take place at the Parish Hall, 43055 Kenai Spur Highway, and consist of a potluck fellowship, Vespers Service and detailed analysis of basic Christian doctrine, currently focusing on the relevance of ancient Christian doctrine for the 21st Century. The fellowship/potluck begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by Vespers at 6:30 p.m. and study from 7 to 8 p.m. The pastor also offers weekly homilies on the website in written and mp3 formats for those who cannot participate in any of the parish activities in person.
