Gunshots fired into police officer's home

Posted: Tuesday, December 12, 2000

BETHEL (AP) -- Someone fired gunshots into a Bethel police officer's home early Saturday, city police said.

Sgt. Ben Dudley was on duty at the time, but his wife and infant son were asleep inside the home. Neither was injured.

Dudley's wife, Valerie, woke to the sound of the gunshots and the feel of plaster spraying her as she lay in bed, police said. Investigators found that two of the three bullets that were fired entered the bedroom only a few inches from where she was sleeping.

Police said the weapon used appeared to be a large caliber handgun. They are investigating reports of a vehicle seen in the area about the time of the shooting.
