State wrestling championship set to go at KCHS

The 2001 Alaska School Activities Association State Fall Wrestling Championships are slated to start with Thursday's 8 a.m. weigh-ins at Kenai Central High School.

Competition will take place in two sessions each day, and a separate admission will be charged to attend each session.

Admission to each session is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Admission to Saturday's Championship Session is $8 for adults and $5 for students.

An event pass is $30 for adults and $20 for students.

Preschool children and students in grades 1 through 6 will be admitted free of charge.

Thursday's Session I starts at 10 a.m.; Session II is slated for 2:30 p.m.

Session III starts at 8:30 a.m. Friday followed by Session IV at 7 p.m.

Session V starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and Session VI, the Championship Session, starts at 5 p.m.

CIA Classic tips off Thursday

The Cook Inlet Academy high school basketball teams will host Unalaska, Homer Community Christian School and Mat-Su Christian in the CIA Classic Basketball Tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Cook Inlet Academy.

Thursday's games will features the Unalaska girls taking on Community Christian at 3:30 p.m., the Unalaska boys against Community Christian at 5:15 p.m., the Cook Inlet girls facing Mat-Su at 7 p.m. and the Cook Inlet boys playing Mat-Su at 8:45 p.m.

Friday's games start at 3:30 p.m. with the Mat-Su girls playing Unalaska, followed by the boys teams at 5:15 p.m. The Cook Inlet girls play Community Christian at 7 p.m. followed by the boys in the 8:45 p.m. game.

Saturday's games start at 11 a.m. with the Community Christian girls playing Mat-Su, followed by the boys at 12:45 p.m. The Cook Inlet girls play Unalaska at 2:30 p.m., followed by the boys in the tournament finale at 4:15 p.m.

Alumni hoops tournament recruiting players

This year's Holiday Hoops Alumni Basketball Classic is scheduled for Dec. 29 at Kenai Central High School.

Play in the tournament, which features alumni teams from Kenai Central, Nikiski, Soldotna, Skyview and Cook Inlet Academy high schools, begins at 9 a.m.

Players are needed to fill both men's and women's teams as well as teams for an old timers game.

Icehawks draw, lose to FAHA squad

The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association Pee Wee B Icehawks notched a tie and a loss against a team from Fairbanks Saturday.

Travis Temple scored two goals for the Icehawks in a 2-2 tie. Owen Dukowitz and Jed McGlasson notched assists in the game while Nicholas Hawkins stopped 19 shots in the Icehawks goal.

Kegan Kiel scored the lone goal in the Icehawks' 4-1 loss to Fairbanks, assisted by Timothy Gleason. Micah Perletti stopped 22 shots for the Icehawks in the game.
