Last Frontier conference accepting plays

Plays are being accepted for play lab and the 10-minute play development workshop in the 11th annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference, held June 20-29 at the Prince William Sound Community College in Valdez. The conference provides a series of workshops, symposia, theatrical productions and panels at which participants have the opportunity to study with award-winning play writers, directors, producers and actors, as well as scholars and critics.

Authors of accepted plays must be registered for the conference and present at the play lab for a public reading. Readers will be provided at no charge. Play writers are expected to introduce their play and set the scene for the audience before the reading.

Full-length and 10-minute plays are being accepted. Play writers may submit only one play per category. Submissions must include a cast list with brief character descriptions, a title page with the author's name, address, phone number and e-mail address, three copies of the script and a biography (100 words for full-length plays and 50 words for 10-minute plays) and photo of the author for publication in the program booklet.

Full-length play submissions may have had staged readings or been produced at the amateur or college level, but not at a professional level. No children's plays or musicals will be accepted for full-length plays. The postmark deadline for full-length plays is Feb. 1 and for 10-minute plays is March 15. Submitted scripts will not be returned unless accompanied by a self addressed stamped envelope.

The conference also is accepting papers on the theme of Edward Albee's influence on play writing in the 21st century.

Interested authors should submit a copy of their paper or a substantial abstract with a title by March 15. Submissions, which are limited to one per author, are limited to a reading time of 20 minutes. Papers will not be returned and the title page must include the author's name, address, phone number and e-mail address. The author's name should only be on the title page. Authors must be registered for the theatre conference and present their paper for a public reading.
