Soldotna resident Betty Karsten died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. She was 88.
A private family viewing and service will be held. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Karsten was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Ipswich, S.D. She moved to Alaska in July 1947. She lived in Anchorage until moving to Soldotna in 1951. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Karsten was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting recipes, quilting, playing cards with her grandchildren and gardening.
"Betty will be missed more than words can say. She will be thought of often and will always have a place in our hearts. She was always ready for a good card game with her grandchildren and absolutely loved her great-grandchildren," her family said.
Mrs. Karsten is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jack McGahan of North Kenai; sons and daughters-in-law, Kurt and Becky Karsten and Keith and Kathy Karsten of Soldotna; grandchildren, Jackie McGahan and wife, Wendy, Rick McGahan and wife, Shelly, Lisa Gabriel and husband, Brian, and Tim McGahan and wife, Bobbie, all of Kenai, Karen Beebe and husband, Brian, of Mesa, Ariz., Cory Karsten and wife, Katie, Chad and Kyle Karsten of Anchorage and Troy and Trevor Karsten of Soldotna; and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Cody, Amanda, Amiee, Allie, Brian, Jenna, Branda, Timothy, Sean, Stephanie, Christa, Baileigh, Oakley, Gunner and Gage.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center, 197 W. Park Ave., Soldotna, AK 99669.
