Food bank appreciates support of community in feeding hungry

Posted: Friday, December 12, 2003

On behalf of the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank board of directors and staff, I would like to thank all the generous contributors to our organization during this past year. There are so many community residents who help us distribute an average of over 54,000 pounds of food monthly on the central and southern Kenai Peninsula. Supporters donate their time, their ideas, food products during food drives, supplies necessary to run a food bank organization and their dollars.

We appreciate organization support such as on Dec 6, the Funny River Ladies organized and prepared a biscuits and gravy fund-raiser to benefit the food bank. The Funny River Quilters donated a double-size quilt for a raffle and the quilt was won by Soldotna resident Ouida Parker. The Funny River Chamber of Commerce contributed to the purchase of Saturday's supplies as well. Fred Meyer's Fred Bear waved at and encouraged passing vehicles to stop at the food bank. Girl Scout Troop No. 618 helped us clean up after the event.

Thank you to all who help us feed the hungry in our community. If you would like to organize a food drive or event to benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, please call me at 262-3111 or e-mail me at
