Panthers third at Homer Open

The defending state champion Wasilla Warriors earned six individual titles to claim first place at the Mariner Open Friday and Saturday at Homer High School. Chugiak placed second, while last year's state runners-up to Wasilla, the Skyview Panthers, earned three individual titles to place third.

The Panthers were led by Eli Hutchison at 135 pounds. Hutchison, a junior who has already won two state titles in his first two seasons of high school wrestling, won a close 3-2 decision over Wasilla's Caesar Berrera. Skyview also got wins from Shane Straughsbaugh at 140 pounds and Clark Buffington at 145.

The host Mariners got wins from Simeon Daigle at 112 pounds and Cody Crum at 275 to place fifth.
