Elizabeth Chatham, right, looks at a candle Friday evening while waiting to take the Florence Nightingale Pledge with 10 other Kenai Peninsula College students at the conclusion of a pinning ceremony marking their graduation from the University of Alaska Anchorage applied associates of science registered nursing program. Nightingale helped pioneer nursing during her candlelit work in the Crimean War of the 1850s. KPC, in conjunction with other schools in the UAA system, will launch another 2-year nursing program in January.
