PALMER (AP) -- The Alaska State Troopers will receive $5,500 in donations to buy a new K-9 police dog.
The money is from the Palmer Lions Club, the Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union and Jerry and Adene Arthur.
Trooper Sgt. Randy Hahn was to accept a ceremonial check for the donation Thursday.
Hahn was the recipient of the previous K-9 purchased by the Palmer Lions Club in May of 1997. The dog, L.C., was shot in July 1998 by a gunman during a standoff. She recovered and was able to return to duty. She is currently assigned to Sitka and the Public Safety Academy.
The new K-9 will replace L.C. in the Palmer area.
