Kenai chamber hosts Commerce rep

The speaker at today's Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be Charles Becker from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Alaska Export Assistance Center. The lunch is at noon at Paradisos restaurant and is open to the public.

Nikiski senior citizens meeting planned

The annual Nikiski Senior Citizens Inc. meeting is planned for 1 p.m. today at the Nikiski Senior Center. The election of new board members will take place. Four seats are available.

Nominations will be taken from the floor.

Scrapbook making club to begin

The Soldotna Memory Keepers Club will meet for the first time today from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Soldotna United Methodist Church on Binkley Avenue.

Library offers story times for children

Toddler story time is at 11 a.m. today at the Kenai Community Library. Preschool story time will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The theme will be new Christmas stories.

Thursday, the library also will hold its annual Christmas party and open house from 4 to 7 p.m.

Homer public nurse to visit schools

Today the public health nurse will be at the Voznesenka School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Ninilchik School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday the nurse will be at Nikolaevsk School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Comment period closes tomorrow

The 90-day public comment period for the Chugach National Forest's proposed revised forest plan and draft environmental impact statement will end Thursday.

Written statements about the plan and impact statement can be delivered or mailed to: Forest Plan Revision, Chugach National Forest, attn.: Gary Lehnhausen, 3301 C Street, Suite 300, Anchorage AK 99503. Mailed comments must be postmarked by Thursday to guarantee consideration during the preparation of the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision.

Chambers holding decorating contests

Both the Soldotna and Kenai chambers of commerce are sponsoring Christmas decorating contests. The deadline for nominating homes and businesses in Kenai is Friday, while the deadline in Soldotna is Tuesday.

House shopping seminar offered

The Alaska Housing Finance Corp. is offering a two-day seminar on shopping for a home. It meets Thursday and Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Borough Building on Binkley Street in Soldotna.

Red Cross wants you to rock with Santa

The American Red Cross is hosting a visit with Santa Claus at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna Thursday through Saturday, and will be offering apple cider and coffee while sitting in Amish-made oak rocking chairs. There's also the opportunity to make small donations to the Red Cross.

Center to provide for those in need

The Independent Living Center will put together a Community Closet to provide those with disabilities with equipment at a low cost. The center is looking for donations of wheelchairs, walkers and equipment for those with vision and hearing impairments.

Santa visits Kasilof

Santa is coming to Kasilof. Area children of all ages are invited to come out to the annual Eagles children's Christmas party Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. to have their pictures taken with Santa. The party is at the McLane Center at Mile 0.5 of Kalifornsky Beach Road.
