Immunization clinic postponed

The immunization clinic at the Kenai Public Health Center will be canceled today and Thursday in Soldotna. Information and appointments are available by calling 335-3400.

Prescription drug benefits to be discussed

State and Social Security Administration representatives will take questions about Medicare prescription drug benefits from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Kenai City Hall.

The Medicare drug benefit enrollment period, when people can sign up or change to a new plan, ends Dec. 31, but people are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. Representatives from the state’s Senior Care Senior Information Office and Social Security Administration also will also talk about state, Social Security and other programs that may help cover medication costs.

Holiday tea to be served

Peninsula Take-a-Break will host a Christmas tea party luncheon from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Solid Rock Conference Center, Mile 90.5 Sterling Highway.

Christmas music and tea trivia with Connie Goltz are planned. Darla Wales will be the featured speaker. Her topic will be “Seeing True Reflections.” The cost is $10 inclusive. Free child care. For reservations, call Cyndi (260-6262) or Carolyn (262-4214).

Cancer fundraiser set to climb

Cancer Survivors on Mount Aspiring board of directors will present a slide show, refreshments and music at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at Kenai Middle School. In addition the school’s climbing wall will be open to the public from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Bob Hempstead, an accomplished climber will present the slide show. Proceeds will benefit children attending cancer camps. Tables for local students Gabe Boyle and Ericka Reynolds,whom are being treated for cancer will be set up to receive donations.

Writers' night needs authors

Submissions are being accepted for the 10th annual Central Kenai Peninsula Writers' Night, put on by the Central Peninsula Writers Group, to be held March 10 at Triumvirate Theatre in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Submission forms and rules are available at the Kenai Community Library, the Triumvirate Bookstore and online at Entries should be returned to the Kenai library or mailed to V. Walters at 214 Birch St., Kenai, AK 99611. The deadline to enter is Jan. 26.

Authors are allowed to enter no more than two pieces each of fiction or nonfiction that can be read in 10 minutes or poetry not to exceed 100 lines. Each writer should submit three copies of their entries with an entry form. The author's name should not appear on the entry.
