On Nov. 23, 2010, Marathon Oil provided the Kenai Peninsula Area seniors to an early Thanksgiving Dinner. This has been an annual event that started many years ago beginning with UnoCal, continuing with Agrium and now Marathon Oil. I would like to thank Marathon Alaska Production, LLC, Kenai Gas Field volunteers and their manager, Carri Lockhart, for carrying on the tradition to our seniors.
Nov. 23 was a wonderful day of giving thanks and counting our many blessings with a wonderful an exemplary display of community service. Marathon's volunteers did a wonderful job with helping in the kitchen, setting and cleaning up the dining room, delivering Thanksgiving meals to home-bound seniors in the Sterling, Soldotna, Nikiski and Kenai area besides providing a congregate meal to the area seniors at the Kenai Senior Center. There were 353 seniors served from various communities on the Peninsula. Each senior, whether home-bound or at the senior center or a Forget-Me-Not Clien, received a hot Thanksgiving home-cooked meal and were given a" Marathon Oil" souvenir cup. Floral center pieces on each of the tables and Marathon Oil hats were given away for door prizes. A monetary donation was given before the event to purchase the food and the Kenai Senior Center chef and helpers prepared the food.
A big thank you goes to Patty Weaver, Betty Belduis for organizing the event and a big thank you goes to the following Marathon Oil employees for giving their day to celebrate Thanksgiving with our seniors:
