New Year's Eve events wanted

New Year's Eve events are being sought for the Clarion's What's Happening column. The more information, the better, and the sooner it's submitted, the better.

Be sure to include what the event is, when, where and what time it occurs. Also include a contact person and phone number. Events must be open to the public.

Book signing planned Saturday

Alaskan Gift and Gallery in Kenai will host a book signing for Homer author Sara Budinger Peterson on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Peterson has written two new books, "Alice: An Alaskan Pioneer" and "Alice Meets Inupiat Eskimos." Each book is illustrated by watercolor artists Dianne Widom and Mary Bee Kaufman.

The books tell stories of a 6-year-old girl who leaves the comfort of her grandmother's home in Pennsylvania at the end of World War II to live in rural Alaska. Based on the stories of Homer legend Yule Kilcher, the author has created a young reader's novel of Alaska adventure that even adult readers will enjoy.

Both books also have additional activity books to accompany the short novels.

For more information, call Alaskan Gift and Gallery at 283-3655.
