Oilers sign infielder from Stetson

Rusty Beale, a junior from Stetson University, has signed with the Oilers for the 2002 season.

The 6-foot-2 infielder is a junior from Tifton, Ga., and is studying sports administration.

Pat Roessler recently was named minor league roving hitting instructor for the Houston Astros organization. Roessler spent the 2001 season in the major leagues as hitting coach for the Montreal Expos. Roessler began his career with the Oilers as an infielder in 1981 and returned as an assistant coach in 1985 and 1986. Roessler was the team's head coach in 1987, compiling a win-loss record of 23-27.

Dennis Cook (Oilers 1983-84) was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies by the New York Mets during the 2001 season. The 14-year major league veteran relief pitcher now has been traded nine times and is in his second stint with the Phillies.

Oilers alumnus Phil Downing (1998-99) split the 2001 season in the Montreal Expos farm system with the Jupiter Hammerheads and the Clinton Lumber Kings. The outfielder had a combined batting average of .240 in 98 games.
