Pierce's 41 help Celtics overcome LeBron's 37

Posted: Sunday, December 14, 2003

CLEVELAND Paul Pierce scored a season-high 41 points and stole the ball from LeBron James in the final minute to help the Boston Celtics win their fifth straight game, 105-98 over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night.

James scored a season-high 37 points, but Cleveland's rookie star missed a 3-pointer in the last two minutes and was stripped by Pierce with 15 seconds to go.

Boston has won 12 in a row over Cleveland.

Knicks 95, Nuggets 88

NEW YORK Antonio McDyess scored a season-high 15 points against the team that traded him nearly 18 months ago, helping New York snap a six-game losing streak with a victory over Denver.

McDyess, making his first start since March 2002 and playing his seventh game since coming back from a knee injury, scored seven points in the final four minutes.

Keith Van Horn had 16 points, and Allan Houston, back after missing three games with a sore knee, added 15 for New York.

Magic 105, Hawks 102

ATLANTA Tracy McGrady scored 30 points, and capped a late rally with a 20-foot jumper for Orlando.

Shammond Williams finished off the comeback with a steal and five free throws, helping the Magic win for the third time in four games after losing 19 straight.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 25 points for the Hawks, who have lost seven of their last eight games.

Grizzlies 110, Nets 63

MEMPHIS, Tenn. Bonzi Wells had 22 points in the Memphis Grizzlies' most lopsided victory in franchise history.

The Nets scored the fewest points of any Grizzlies opponent, and came within a point of matching their own futility record.

Trail Blazers 112, Lakers 108

PORTLAND, Ore. Damon Stoudamire hit two late 3-pointers and Portland handed Los Angeles its second loss in two nights.

Stoudamire finished with 25 points and eight assists. Rasheed Wallace, who stirred controversy with a contentious interview earlier in the week, led the Blazers with 28 points and seven rebounds.

Clippers 106, Suns 91

LOS ANGELES Quentin Richardson scored 25 points and Corey Maggette had 23 for the Clippers.

Stephon Marbury had 30 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Suns, who were outrebounded 53-36 and shot 2-for-14 from 3-point range in their fifth straight loss. They're 2-0 since Mike D'Antoni was promoted to head coach after Frank Johnson was fired.

Elton Brand added 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Clippers.

Bulls 86, Pacers 75

CHICAGO Jamal Crawford and Kirk Hinrich scored 18 points apiece and Chicago used a 16-0 third-quarter run to beat Indiana.

The Bulls, breaking a four-game losing streak and improving to 2-4 since Scott Skiles became coach, beat the top team in the Eastern Conference with their second-half hustle and the inside play of Marcus Fizer, who had 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Jerome Williams, who added 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Spurs 86, Rockets 73

SAN ANTONIO Manu Ginobili scored 16 points and Tony Parker had 14 points and 12 assists to help San Antonio beat Houston for the second time in three days, 86-73 Saturday night.

The win was the Spurs' sixth straight and lifted the defending NBA champions within a half-game of Midwest Division-leading Dallas.
