Oden Expedition to Antarctica goes live

Posted: Thursday, December 14, 2006

Allan Miller, a teacher from Sterling who is currently on a voyage to McMurdo Station in Antarctica, will be available for a live Web seminar and conference call Friday at 9 a.m.

The Swedish icebreaker Oden is crossing the Drake Passage, and the Web seminar and conference call are being conducted by the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States.

Those interested in participating in the Internet portion of the event should configure their computers ahead of time. Those without Internet access can still join the conference call.

Registration and detail-ed instructions and for the event are available at www.polartrec.com. The Web site also includes journal entries from Miller and Ute Kaden, another teacher on the Oden Expedition.

Here is an excerpt from one of Miller’s recent posts:

“Just around the corner our driver spotted a couple of Chilean foxes — probably working hard to see if they might be able to grab a little Nandu for dinner. Mom Nandu was on high alert and kept the foxes well at bay while she herded her babies along.”
