Governor should intervene; state should buy back Homer leases

Posted: Monday, December 15, 2003

Whose side is the state on?

It sold the coal bed methane leases in Homer without adequate public notice STRIKE ONE!

It did not record the leases so property owners, real estate brokers and title companies are unable to disclose this vital information to prospective buyers STRIKE TWO!

By not notifying residents of Homer, especially property owners, it denied citizens their right to appeal the lease and their right to due process STRIKE THREE!

The state has struck out its citizens! Now we need our umpire, Gov. Frank Murkowski, to step in, declare a buyback of leases in the Homer area, and put the state back on the team with its residents.

Robert Archibald, Homer
