CIA, Ninilchik sweep first day

In the opening round of the Cook Inlet Classic on Thursday in Soldotna, the Ninilchik girls defeated Lumen Christi 59-49, the Ninilchik boys defeated Lumen Christi 62-55, the Cook Inlet Academy girls defeated Tri-Valley 48-24 and the CIA boys defeated Lumen 69-40.

In the Ninilchik girls game, the Wolverines converted 25-of-42 free throws while Lumen Christi was just 5-of-7 from the charity stripe to gain a big advantage. Krista Leman had 23 points for the Wolverines while Kjersten Skjold added 14.

In the Ninilchik boys game, Austin Vanderford pumped 22 points to lead the Wolverines to victory.

In the CIA girls game, the Eagles put three players in double figures, with Melissa Moffis scoring 13 points to lead all scorers.

In the CIA boys game, the Eagles had three players in double figures, with Ryan Doyle leading the team with 14 points and nine steals.
