Longtime Alaskan Eileen Marie Edler died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. She was 66.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at College Heights Baptist Church on Kalifornsky Beach Road. Pastor Scott Coffman will officiate. A celebration of her life will follow at the VFW Post No. 10046 in Soldotna.
Ms. Edler was born May 31, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey. She moved to Soldotna in 1975. She had worked for Enstar Natural Gas and Coca Cola. Ms. Edler was a member of the VFW Post No. 10046 Ladies Auxiliary, Red Hats Society and College Heights Baptist Church. She also volunteered at Central Peninsula Hospital and enjoyed quilting.
"She was always willing to volunteer herself and her wonderful talents of quilt making. She often raffled her quilts for fund raising purposes. She was a dear and loving friend to all those she crossed paths with," her family said.
Ms. Edler was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Estevez.
She is survived by her mother, Dora Estevez of Soldotna; son, Mike Shomer and his wife; grandchildren, Kiara, Gloria, Skylaar and Isaiah Shomer, all of Chugiak; and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be sent to the family at 261 N. Charity, Soldotna, AK 99669.
