Jacob Iverson scored midway through the second period to lead the Kenai Central hockey team past Soldotna 1-0 at the Soldotna Sports Center on Tuesday.
With the win, the Kardinals rebounded from two consecutive losses over the weekend, when they dropped games to West Anchorage and Chugiak by a combined score of 7-3.
"The team played really well," coach Pete Iverson said. "It's always an emotionally charged game when we play SoHi, so it was good to get the win."
Keegan Remsen picked up the victory in goal for the Kardinals, who don't play again until Jan. 8. William Granger starting for the Stars, allowing the game's lone goal on a power play.
"It was just a matter of who was in the penalty box the least," Iverson said. "Both goalies played great."
It was the second loss in three games for the Stars, who have been inconsistent on offense following a quick start to the season. SoHi was shutout Friday in a 5-0 loss to Chugiak before rebounding to defeat West 4-3 a night later.
