Kenai youth ranked Eagle Scout
Clint K. Hutchison of Kenai has achieved his Eagle Scout ranking, the highest award in Scouting.
Hutchison was a member of Troop 206 in Arlington, Wash., through most of his scouting years, then joined Troop 152 in Kenai when his family moved to the Kenai Peninsula.
To be ranked as an Eagle Scout, a scout must have earned at least 21 merit badges. Some of Hutchison's badges include citizenship in the community, citizenship in the nation, citizenship in the world, personal management, swimming, lifesaving, first aid and family life.
Kasilof student earns academic scholarship
Shaina Daris of Kasilof has been awarded a $2,000 Presidential Scholarship for the 2002-03 year at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash. Incoming freshmen students are chosen for this award based on their academic accomplishments in high school. It is renewable for a second year if a 3.5 grade point average is maintained in college.
Daris is the daughter of Dawn and Donald Daris of Kasilof. She is a 2002 graduate of Skyview High School, where she participated in National Honor Society, Youth Court, yearbook and the graduation committee.
