True meaning of Christmas lost in commercialized holiday

'Twas the Week Before Christmas

'Twas the week before Christmas and all around town,

giving glory to Jesus, was so hard to be found.

Few times you'd hear songs of His holy birthday,

More often they'd be of Santa, his reindeer and sleigh.

Most people were busy with "Happy holiday" sales,

spending over their limit, buying jewelry at Zales.

Checks were all written to buy presents and more,

while walking and shopping on feet that were sore.

And while driving home, from their trips to the mall,

did they even think about Jesus? ... So few did at all.

Their lives were too busy to honor the newborn King,

and His gift to this earth that He suffered to bring.

There were presents to wrap and more cookies to bake.

No time for Christ, who lived and died for our sake.

No time for our Savior. No time to stop and praise.

Only time to celebrate Christmas in its temporal ways.

And what from the media did they suddenly hear?

But news advertising more bargains of the year.

So back they'd go shopping. They flew like a flash,

stopping at an ATM, because they needed more cash.

On to Wal-mart, to Kmart, to Sears and to Penney's!

A quick bite at McDonald's, a Pizza Hut or at Denny's!

From the stores around town to the shops at the mall,

they'd dash that way, lay away and charge at them all!

It's up on the roof top with your Home Depot ladders,

and strings of bright lights, but forgetting what matters.

Putting them up in a flash, for all children, boy or girl,

but where do we put Jesus, the Light of the World?

Christ watches and cares for us and wants us to be merry!

His word is everlasting, and our burdens He will carry!

So instead of being busy with more troubles and strife,

put Christ back in Christmas, and let His love fill your life!
