Power filled plays make spirits bright

Posted: Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Once again this weekend those wishing to experience some holiday cheer through live theatre will have a couple of options thanks to thespians of the Triumvirate Theatre. In Kenai the Funky Monkey is offering dinner theatre with Joe Rizzo's production of Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol," and at the Triumvirate Theatre in Soldotna the super comedy of heroic proportions "Insane with Power," will have shows Friday and Saturday night starting at 7:00pm. "The play by Scott Haan is set in a mental institution where all the patients believe they have super powers which range from believing they can turn on and off the lights by clapping their hands, to being able to read other peoples minds and having super speed and control over the weather," said Insane with Power director Angie Nelson who also directed "You know the old Slaying" mystery comedy earlier this year.

The cast includes the popular Chris Jenness as Kevin Bendis, Jamie Nelson as Dim Bulb, Karlene Meyers as Mental, Adam Meyers as Speed Freak, the lovely Sally Cassano as mild mannered reporter Lois Lancaster, and Terri Burdick as Dr. Gail Eisner the psychiatrist empowered to lead the therapy sessions. According to Nelson she was looking for a play to direct for the Triumvirate when she came across the new comedy about big city journalist who is doing a story about the current state of affairs of modern health facilities. "Her research takes to her to a hospital populated with a unique group of quirky inmates who believe themselves to be crime-fighting superheroes. At first the reporter finds their elaborate superhero fantasies to be an entertaining diversion, their wild delusions and unstable minds, until something unusual happens that makes her wonder," implies Nelson.

If you like good food with your theatre from the pages of Dickens' classic tale comes a stage play rendition of A Christmas Carol brimming with ghostly holiday spirit at the Funky Monkey in the C-Plaza in Kenai. Tickets are $30.00 for dinner and show, for more information call the Funky Monkey at 283-6659. Tickets will be available at the door of the Triumvirate Theatre in Soldotna $10.00 for adults $8.00 for students, or call 953-7262.
