The public is invited to participate in the Soldotna Christmas Bird Count this Saturday. Volunteers are asked to follow assigneed routes and count every bird they see or hear from first light until dusk. Teams will be formed at the pre-count meeting held from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the Kaladi Brothers Coffee Co. on S. Kobuk Ave in Soldotna. The cost is $5 per participant. Dress warmly and try to bring a pair of binoculars and a bird identification book. Participants are invited to submit their tally sheets and meet for a potluck after the count at 6 p.m. at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge's Environmental Education Cabin, located next to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters on Ski Hill Road. The Robert Johnson Ski Clinic will be held Dec. 26 at Skyview High School's Tsalteshi trailhead. Classic ski lessons are from noon to 1:15 p.m., skate ski lessons are from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., and a waxing clinic will be held at 3 to 3:30 p.m. Lessons are by local elite skier Brent Knight.
