FAIRBANKS (AP) -- Private scholarship awards are increasing for students attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks, officials say.

Total awards this year are expected to reach $500,000, up from $487,967 given to 312 UAF students last year and $360,514 as recently as the 1998-99 school year.

There are currently nearly 250 different private scholarships available, and students can now apply for the awards online. Deadline for applying for next year's scholarships is Feb. 15.
