Workshop set for entrepreneurial veterans

A new federal program provides assistance to those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and own businesses. A workshop on the new benefits will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Red Diamond Center Small Business Development Center, Suite 16, in Soldotna. The workshop will focus on purchasing for general services and supplies.

Anyone interested in the program who served in active duty, was a reservist, a member of the National Guard or was injured while in training status is invited to attend.

Swim team holds tryouts

The Soldotna Silver Salmon Swim Team is holding swimming tryouts today at the Soldotna High School pool. Tryouts also will be held Jan. 7 and 14.

Caregiver outreach support program to meet

The Kenai Peninsula Family Caregiver Outreach and Support Program will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Soldotna Senior Center, 197 W. Park Ave. The family program was created to identify and provide information and support to care givers in the Southcentral region of Alaska. It will offer care givers support of others who are coping with the same or similar issues.

Program organizers would like to hear from family members and care givers of people who are dealing with cognitive or physical disabilities, Alzheimer's or related disorders so they can offer support for their needs.

CPGH service board meeting slated

The Central Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board monthly meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. today in the Iliamna room at Central Peninsula General Hospital.

Group for blind to meet

The monthly meeting of the Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Alaska Independent Blind will be at 7 p.m. today at the Fireweed Medical Center at 247 N. Fireweed in Soldotna. All interested persons are invited.

Community play and potluck coming to Ninilchik

There will be a potluck dinner and musical by Anne Coyle entitled "Starship Bethlehem," at the Carol Bock Hall, Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds in Ninilchik Thursday at 5:45 p.m. The play is accompanied by the local choir and special music.

Church plans holiday musical

The youth group at First Baptist Church of Kenai will present "Celebrate Life, the Musical," during the holidays.

The first performance will be at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve at the church at 12815 Spur Highway. The second will be 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at Soldotna First Baptist Church at 159 N. Binkley.
