The fifth- and sixth-grade band will give a special holiday performance from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the school. Skyview High School band director Kent Peterson will conduct. Following the performance, there will be a community art reception for visiting artist Graham Dane in the library. The public is encouraged to come view the new mural in the library and see the flying fish. The staff and students would like to thank the PTA for bringing Dane to the school. They also would like to thank Ron and Sandy Lyons of Sterling Flippin' Fin Charters and B&B for donating two weeks free lodging for Dane.
Today is the final day for students to bring nonperishable food items to school. The canned food drive is being held to generate food for Share in the Giving. Classes will compete to see which can build the tallest tower with the food items they have collected Thursday. The top classes with the total can count will have a pizza party and the class with the tallest tower will get an ice cream party. All food items will be given to families in the Sterling area. All new toys will be picked up with the food items. For more information about Share in the Giving, call the school.
Physical education teacher Mr. Chase is finishing up the basketball unit this week. Part of the unit is participating in the Elks-sponsored Hoop Shoot. The six winners will be competing against other school winners in the central peninsula area Jan. 10 at Soldotna Middle School. The winners are Michael Reese, Judy Jones, Paul Adams, Nanette Daigle, Joe Nyholm and Jasmine Clock.
