Shelving donation much appreciated by Kenai library

Posted: Friday, December 17, 2004

On behalf of the Kenai Community Library and the Friends of the Library, I would like to thank Deirdre Cheek, Clerk of Courts, and the Alaska Court System in Kenai for donating shelving from the Law Library of the Kenai Courthouse to the Kenai Community Library. When Deirdre first offered the shelving to the library, Director Ewa Jankowska realized that the shelving would be a great benefit once a proposed library expansion takes place. However, since the library is currently over-crowded, there was no space in the library to store the shelving. Thanks to the creative thinking of some community volunteers, this problem was overcome. Carol Brenckle, Tim Navarre, and Robert Peterkin arranged for the shelving to be moved to the EDD; where Dee Gaddis, Administrative and Accounting Coordinator, approved the use of a room to store the shelving.

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library has already donated $50,000 to the City of Kenai to pay for some of the furnishings for the expansion. The intended use of this money is to purchase chairs, desks, racks, and other items in addition to shelving. With the donation of shelving from the Law Library, valued at an estimated $15,000, the Friends money has been augmented. We appreciate the help of our generous community.
